How to play Guess the Flag LIVE
A YouTube live stream that never stops: a flag appears, scrambled into tiles that sort themselves back into place, and the first players to type the country in the live chat score. No sign-up, no app: a YouTube account to chat is all it takes.
The rounds
- Flag rounds: a flag sorts itself back together from a scrambled mosaic. Type the country's name in chat as soon as you know it.
- Border rounds: a country's outline, alone on screen. Type the country.
- Capital rounds: a flag with four cities beside it. Type A, B, C or D, or the city's name. Only your first answer counts.
The cycle
Chat chooses what comes next: a wheel spins between flags, borders and capitals, weighted by your votes (type 1, 2 or 3, or flags, borders, capitals). A block of six rounds of that kind follows, then a bonus round:
- after borders, a map: name every country of a region;
- after flags, a flag wall: twelve flags at once;
- after capitals, every capital starting with a letter.
In a bonus round the first to name each one scores, and if the room finds them all, every finder's points are doubled. After every two blocks comes a short break with the leaderboards.
Likes count too: every few dozen likes on the live (the counter is on screen) earn a Flag Frenzy, minutes of a flag wall that refills as fast as the room names its flags.
The points
- Up to 100 points for a right answer, fewer the longer you take (never under 10).
- Harder flags pay more: ×1.5 for medium, ×2 for hard.
- The first right answer of a round earns +25.
- A streak: from your third right answer in a row, your points are doubled.
- Answers are timed from when you typed them, minus the stream's delay: what counts is what was on your screen, not when your message arrived.
Chat commands
- !country + your country: every point you score also counts for it on the country leaderboard.
- !hide takes you off this site's boards and pages; !show brings you back.
- !feedback + your idea: it goes straight to the maker of the game.
- Channel members also get !color (their name's colour on stream), !theme and !banner (their page on this site), and !restore (a broken streak back, once a day).
